What's more punk than adopting a rat?

FWD:

Dear friend of Hugs for Puppies, please read on - we desperately need
help saving the lives of the animals that have already endured a life
of misery in a lab and are now going to be killed UNLESS we can find
homes for them!

We
(the Humane League of Philadelphia - Hugs for Puppies has changed its
name) were recently contacted by a local university that is set to kill
70 rats they used in psychology experiments. However, the school is
willing to turn over to us any rats that we can find homes for. We are
desperately seeking people who would be interested in adopting one or
several of these extremely sweet, sociable rats. Adoption would
literally mean saving their lives, since we are not going to be able to
find homes for all 70 and any that we cannot find homes for will be
gassed to death.

All of the rats are white albinos, are male, are very friendly with people and with one another.

If you or anyone you know can adopt one or several of these rats, or help us find homes, it would be EXTREMELY appreciated!

If
you have any questions, feel free to reply to us via myspace, email us
at info AT thehumaneleague DOT com or call me at (deleted). We will be
picking up an initial group of the rats late next week, and are in many
cases able to drive the rats to you (or near you) if you are not able
to pick them up.

Thank you!
Nick

www. thehumaneleague. com

THE OLD HAUNTS, BAD NEWS BATS, BARKING SPIDERS, LESSER KNOWN NEUTRINOS @Dock Str

REPOST (from some other part of the internet):

This Sunday, May 17th., there'll be a benefit show to
help cover some tiny percentage of my medical bills....... if I end up
getting anything covered by crime victims comp stuff, I'm going to
donate the money to that. If not, then this will go towards staving off
the rabid dogs of the US-hell medical nightmare system who are asking
approx. $40,000 from me to put some metal in my jaw.

Either way, this is going to be a great show. Northern Liberties were originally going to play, but Marc won't be in town.

The show is going to be at the Dock Street brew house - on the corner of 50th. & Baltimore Ave., Philly. This is supposed to start on the early side, like 6 PM,
so DON'T SNOOZE! This show features some of my favorite local bands
ever ever, and a great out of town band, who have an excellent
Wipers-esque (if one has to make comparisons) rock sound.

Bands:

THE OLD HAUNTS -- From Olympia, WA. (w/ Tobi Vail - of Bikini Kill and lots of other cool bands - on drums. On Kill Rockstars label.)

BAD NEWS BATS

BARKING SPIDERS

LESSER KNOWN NEUTRINOS

PLUS..... there will be FOOD.... BEER..... and an ART AUCTION!

ALSO...
DOUBLE PLUS.... I will be have color copies of my art available for $5
per, suitable for framing, colorful paper airplane projects, etc.....
and the last few copies of my large posters.... a new design is waiting
in the wings, but this will be one of the last chances to grab this
design.... of 125 copies total I have approx. 20 left..... there are
few at Germ Books, and a few at Long In The Tooth here in here in
Philly, and then that's it forever for that design!

So..... I hope to see YOU there!

Me serva et ego servabo te,

*justinbird*
Earthlink pulling the plug on Wireless Philly plan?

here's the link to Wireless Philadelphia, and they have been posting their side of the situation: http://www.wirelessphiladelphia.org/

Short version, Earthlink said they will pull the plug in one month if something doesn't change. The network was only about 3/4 completed, and people that subscribed had mixed results. Would people have signed up if it worked? Do people still use modems? Who knows!

Here's the article on the Inquirer site:
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/local/18922589.html
Article About Tristan From Kitschchao
http://www.phillymag.com/articles/embrace_your_madness/

Back in the early/mid 1990s there was a Philly band called Kitschchao. The article is about the singer, Tristan. He went on to write some amazing books including Lord of the Barnyard and Kornwolf. (Just for the record, Kornwolf is about a werewolf in Lancaster County)

FTA:
“Embrace Your Madness”

 He
was a novelist from the old school — a tortured, drunken renegade whose
brilliant first book earned comparisons to Faulkner and Kerouac. But in
the end, the chaotic beauty of Tristan Egolf’s prose was nothing
compared to the unrest in his head. A literary tragedy

listen to Kitschchao here:
A Look at Philadelphia Van Thefts

Cheap Shot!
Philly (http://www.cheapshotphilly.com/)
has posted an article talking about the ongoing issue
of van theft in the City of Brotherly Love. In October and November,
punk band Strung Out and ska-sters Suburban Legends were each robbed of
their touring vehicles, gear, merch, and personal possessions. Despite
recovering their vans and trailers, no gear and precious little of
anything else remained for either band.

Cheap
Shot! takes a look at these last two thefts by speaking with members of both
bands. Some possible solutions to the problem - as well as preventitive
measures bands can take - are also discussed.

You can read the article at: http://www.cheapshotphilly.com/content/vantheft.html
